This 2005 skate session was filmed to gather some tricks for use in my instructional DVD ”Skateboarding Explained”. Two of the tricks were used in it; the feeble grind transfer down the rail & the bluntslide down the hubba ledge.

You can almost always find something wrong with a skate spot, or an obstacle, and sometimes this will stop you from skating it. However, if you want to keep skating hard and progressing, always practice taking a really good look at your environment, and think about what you can creatively do with it. This will make you an unstoppable skateboarder!

A shred session at Third Coast Skatepark back in 2004. Thanks to Art Waggoner for the support!

Just another day skating at the Vans Skatepark of Houston in 2003. I was on the pro circuit at this time and it was a perfect training facility because it had almost everything, was climate controlled, and had a great vibe from the skaters and employees.
Thanks to Steve VanDoren for sponsoring me, and for letting me teach at the park. Also a big thanks to Dwight Denton, Ian Anderson, Chris Foreman, and the rest of the Vans employees. I thought of Skateboarding Explained: The Instructional DVD while teaching at this park, and I started Mentality Skateboards out of here. So many great times there! RIP

I really loved the Vans Skatepark of Houston. Here’s a 2001 TV morning news clip of me, Ray Barbee, Chet Childress, and an 11 year old Chaz Pineda at Vans.

2000 NBC Channel 2 News Story with Chris Wragge, before he was “The Early Show” host. This was after I placed 8th at the Vans Amateur World Championships. ( I qualified 1st in the semi finals ) It’s filmed at Dex Skatepark, which was owned by Art & Deana Waggoner. Thank you Art & Deana!
Here’s my Biography so you can track where I was in my career at this time http://skateboard.about.com/od/proskaterbios/p/ProDanMacfarlan.htm

If someone else considers a skate trick Old School or New School, and you are just learning it, and are doing it, you are in the Now School. That is all that ever really matters when skateboarding, skating in the Now and progressing forward.

2002 at Lake Owen Woodward was extremely fun, and I was there for most of that summer. It’s also when I was pro for Vision. Here’s a clip of me from their “Regimen” skate camp video.

1995 was a very different time in skateboarding. My mentality was to skate both street & ramp, and I can see how my style was different back then. It shows skate spots in Houston Texas, Encinitas, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Palo Alto California. I hope you enjoy this glimpse back in time.

Here’s my segment on “Great Day Houston” Weekend with Deborah Duncan. It aired on August 20th 2011.

At age 14 in 1990, I was already sponsored by the Skatepark of Houston, and this was my first attempt at a “Sponsor Me” video… It was a major breakthrough for me. This experience definitely helps me identify with my team riders and students, because I have been there, and know what it takes. Note that I did not have an instructor, instructional video, or someone to help guide me to make this, and there was no Youtube to promote it. It is pure skateboarding, my true self.
Features the first ever:
- Backside Nosegrind Tailgrab Onefoot on Vert. ( Inspired by Alfonso Rawls doing it frontside in “Not The New H-Street Video”. I was one of the first to get that video. )
- Alley Oop Nosegrind Tailgrab on Vert.
- 270 Tailgrab to Chink-Chink to fakie. ( Inspired by Alfonso Rawls doing it 540. This was also long before the Powell “8” video where Tony Hawk & Colin McKay do them. They were a major inspiration to me though. )
I was fortunate to grow up at the Skatepark of Houston, amongst many of the best skateboarders in the world at the time. Special Thanks to Chris Milo for filming, my parents for everything, Dennis Eppinette for sponsoring me at SPOH, David Mills, Chuck Nwoke, and Kelly Bird for the support!
